Human Viz proposal by 4um

Several artists have created proposals for artworks related to collective energy consumption in Helsinki. The plan is to realise one or more of these artworks during 2010. Please give us feedback on the proposals!

Here are some photos from Eclipse Happening / Pixelache Summer Party that took place on the coldest day recorded in June in Finland in 60 years time, with heavy rain… Thanks for everyone who helped to realise the event and all the guests who dared to venture out all the way to URSA observatory to participate the event.

Earlier in the afternoon there were presentations by Professor Tapio Markkanen and artist Agnes Meyer-Brandis, and a moonwalking workshop hosted by Milla Koistinen (so the Pixelache crew is now ready to participate the www.eternalmoonwalk.com project ;).

The Eclipse Happening is already tomorrow and the weather forecast is not too promising but they might be wrong… All the planned outdoor events will happen anyway.

So be prepared for the expedition and take your rubber boots and raincoats!!!!

The Eclipse Happening is this Thursday!

We have presentations from Professor Tapio Markkanen (Observatory of the University of Helsinki) & artist Agnes Meyer-Brandis (DE), discussing eclipses and space travel. Those who can’t attend, can follow the presentations via our live stream. A link to the stream will be posted on this blog at the start of the first presentation, around 15.00 Finnish time, this Thursday.

Symposium for ART AND RENEWABLE TECHNOLOGIES
August 13-16 in Aizpute (Latvia)

The 4-day symposium gathering together artists, activists, technologists, scientists and researchers, to share their ideas and explorations which deal with renewable energy resources, alternative ecological use of technologies, and other sustainability related issues.

The symposium will take place in artists residency center SERDE in Aizpute, a small town in Kurzeme region of Latvia. SERDE is located in old wooden historical building (that also will be used as a specific case for which alternative and ecological approach in developing sustainable systems and renewable energy technologies can be explored and applied).

Participation:

Travel and accommodation/subsistence will be covered for 10 participants from Baltic and Nordic countries, and for 2 participants from EU countries.

For others, participation costs include:
1) admission - free
2) travel (to Riga) - has to be covered by participants (local transportation from Riga to Aizpute will be provided by organisers)
3) accommodation - 10-25 eur per night

The outcomes of the symposium - new projects, artworks, co-productions - will be presented during the international art and science conference ENERGY that will take place in the framework of Art+Communication festival in Riga, October 15-17, 2009.

Symposium is organised by RIXC, the center for new media culture with the support of Nordic Culture Fund.

Pixelache and Helsingin Energia have invited an international group of artists to propose public artworks related to energy consumption. Among the invited artists are Unsworn Industries (Erik Sandelin & Magnus Torstensson), Miska Knapek, Andy Best and Maria Duncker.

The artists’ proposals will be made public in October 2009 and selected artworks will be realised during 2010.

We are looking for people (or groups/organisations/collectives) who would like to be involved in planning and realising Pixelache 2010 festival. Please send an informal description of yourself and your ideas to programme2010 [[at]] pixelache.ac.

Please get in touch with us soon, since we are hoping to gather the main programme team already during June 2009.

Pixelache Helsinki will be held in March or April 2010 (the exact date will be announced soon).

Another call for artworks and projects will be sent out in Autumn 2009.
